I'm absolutely sure this will NOT be the last time I make a call out to the mamas! So, maybe this should be titled My First of Many. Oh well. Hopefully, I'll get some good information this way about preparing for the Baby J.
I'm going through some of our stuff and wondering how many I need of all this baby stuff. So, for all the mamas out there, I'd love to hear your opinion. Here's my list.
How many burp cloths do I need?
How many bibs?
Receiving blankets?
And 8 oz. bowls with lids?
Spoons?
Any advice? I'm trying to figure out roughly how many because I'm trying to determine if I need to take some stuff back. Having never ventured there before I'm not sure what the kiddo really needs.
Thanks for any help you wise wise women give!!
Buried in burp cloths, bibs, and blankets,
Kari J.

SINCE you asked...I think the answer to this question is going to be different for EVERY mama that has ever ventured there...but I will, as requested, tell you what I thought! We had about 4 burp cloths. That usually accounted for one around the house, one in the diaper bag, one in the laundry, and one ready for action. We had about 5 receiving blankets...but I think somewhere around 8 would be helpful (perhaps 2 packs?) All of this is because we swaddled Josiah at night, and he peed through his clothes and blanket at least once a night--and occasionally spit up beyond repair on them. If your child is not such an aggressive urinator--it probably wont be bad. I just was washing blankets every other day. This is a REALLY unique answer about bibs---we didn't use any. We have a whole drawer of them and he wasnt a big drooler, and once we started solids he always yanked them off. We use one plastic one with really messy meals now. Gotta pick your battles:) Those are the only things I truly have any insight on. I don't have 8oz bowls with lids, so I'm not quite sure about that. We have one pack of baby spoons (5 or 6 ?) and that has been just fine. Miss you---you will figure out what you need for YOU and your baby and that will truly be the RIGHT answer.
I say lots of burp cloths and bibs because it's less laundry to do...bibs you won't need until later if you're planning to nurse at first. But, I nursed with two burp cloths...one for baby and one for the other full mammary gland which leaked like crazy until they adjusted to nursing (took MONTHS)...at least, the first few months. Bowls and spoons you won't need until 5-6 months, but at least 5 of each -- less often to have to wash :) Just ask the laziest mama out there!
First of all...keep the questions coming...it's good for us all to share...it's the only thing that has gotten me to this point.
Bibs...you can never have enough, I promise. I would say at least 10. They will mess up like 2-3 a day, and then you'll need a few for the diaper bags and some extras in various rooms...one for the bedroom and one to keep in the living room.
Burp cloths...see above. DITO.
Bowls? Not sure about that yet.
Even if you're breastfeeding, you will eventually need bottles. I am pumping bc I'm back at work. We have 7 bottles that we rotate through every 2-3 days.
Good luck, my sweet friend! You are in my closest prayers! Can't wait to meet little Jenkins!
Hi Soon to be Mama Jenkins...here is my quick rundown on your supply list question:
burp cloths - I'd say 4 or 5 would be great - for the reasons Mama Callie said
bibs - I used them religiously with Zoe Rose until she was about 3 or 4 years old so I'd say that at each age group you should have at least 3 - 5...which would give you enough for roughly a day to start.
receiving blankets: we swaddled Zoe also but of course I also used these as accessories to her outfits for visiting, riding in the car as well as laying on the floor for floor time: so my number is probably still at 5 spring/summer and 5 fall/winter
bowls with lids became necessary at feeding age so 5-6 of those with 3 lids for travel (they come in handy during walks in the stroller to hold Cheerios)
Hope that helps and I hope you are surviving house arrest and that you are feeling well today.

Because of serious reflux issues with EmiKate for almost the entire 1st year of her life- I couldn't have enough burp cloths and bibs! I would wash clothes only because we would run out of burp cloths. So, my advice is to save them with tags and if Baby J. has reflux issues, you'll be glad- if not, take them back. :) About 4-6 spoons is plenty. About the bowls, I thnik we have about 4 in one size and 4 in another. They are just nice to keep veggies and fruit in. But this is definitely plenty. Don't worry, it won't take you long to figure out what little noggin needs. Love you!
